“This place was perfect for our family’s stay while exploring Placencia. The house is just as described but probably a little more spacious than you think. The water pressure is great! We enjoyed being out of the city but still close enough to explore. This place is really close to several nice resort restaurants and local grocery stores. The beach and pool across the street are nice. I recommend packing a day pack and heading to the beach in Placencia as well. We had a rental car so the location was ideal for us. Seemed like plenty of local taxis and buses. The local host and care taker were great and very helpful.”

“This is such a beautiful place to stay. It’s about 15 minutes from the actual village of Placencia, so you’ll need to rent a car or golf cart. Other than that, you’ll love staying here. Beautiful location and scenery, the accommodations were top notch and the pool across the street has such a lovely veiw!”

“The Wooden Mongoose is very comfortable place to stay in the Maya Beach area. The living/kitchen/dining area is really large and allows plenty of room to gather or move around. The area is very quiet, with the buildings set back from the road, and the grounds are kept clean and raked. The beach and pool are just a few steps across the road, but close enough to enjoy. A warning to watch for wildlife. We had a boa slithering across the driveway one morning as we were leaving! It is, after all, not in a paved city. A vehicle is required as it is located in an area away from the airport and many of the local eating establishments. Overall, we found The Wooden Mongoose was a great value in Maya Beach area.”

“I loved my stay at Wooden Mongoose. The place was very comfortable and clean. All the amenities worked great and were modern. Comfortable beds, great AC, good wifi, nice bathroom and fully functional kitchen. I loved the big open concept of the living area and the feeling of space it provided compared to a hotel room. It was super easy to deal with the owners and they even worked quickly to accommodate me for an extra night. I thought the location was great as I prefer to stay where it is a bit quieter but also have easy access, with a vehicle, to Placencia village. There is a single paved road on the peninsula so getting around in rather a car rental or golf cart is a breeze. I would imagine cycling is an option as well. I spent time in the village with the ‘woo hoo’ of vacationers but also visiting all the different restaurants and beaches along the peninsula. I had lunch at many of the resorts and most allowed you to then use their pools and cared for beaches. I particularly enjoyed Tiger Club bar which is a 2min walk away, on the beach and had great atmosphere, quick food and drinks. There are live bands and parties as well. Very cool to get to meet locals and expats all along side each other having fun. If you enjoy some independence and freedom of movement in your travels as apposed to the hand-held gated resort vibe, then I highly recommend this great two bedroom place.”
