FAQ

  • IS IT OK TO TRAVEL TO BELIZE? WHAT ABOUT COVID-19?

Yes. We have acquired our Gold Standard certification from the Belize Tourism Board for our vacation rental. We thoroughly clean and sanitize to a high standard prior to your arrival. We also have staff on site to take temperatures and for first aid should it be required.

  • CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

Yes.  Our water comes from a water treatment facility and is filtered.  We also have water filters on each individual house at the source.  You can just fill up water bottles and store them in the fridge.  We have always been fine drinking the tap water with not a single problem.

  • DO I NEED AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVER'S LICENCE?

No.  As long as you have a driver's licence you can drive in Belize.  If you rent a vehicle, ensure it has a registration sticker and an insurance sticker on the front windshield.  You will periodically come across Police Checks on the roads and highways - they will usually wave you through, but sometimes they do look for this documentation.

  • SPEAKING OF DRIVING, DO I NEED A CAR?

Yes, we recommend you rent a car.  We are not directly in the village and the nearest grocery store is a couple of minutes away.  If you plan to visit any ruins or go sight seeing, you will need a vehicle.  Belize is small, but it is very spread out.  MIND THE SPEED BUMPS! They are everywhere.

  • DO THEY DRIVE ON THE LEFT, OR THE RIGHT?

In Belize, like in North America, the driving is on the right hand side of the road.

  • DO I NEED TO EXCHANGE MY MONEY INTO BELIZEAN MONEY?

No.  In fact, if you are Canadian, we recommend bringing American money and a number of $1 USD bills for tipping while in Belize.  Every commerce and retail space in Belize accepts American money.  You may receive partly USD and partly BZD when receiving change.

  • HOW DO I GET TO PLACENCIA FROM THE AIRPORT?

There are several flights a day from Belize City to the Placencia Peninsula.  Tropic Air offers approximately 6 flights a day, as does Maya Island Air.  They are located at the International Airport so you can book a connecting flight when you land.  You can also take a bus, hire a taxi or rent a car.  We recommend renting from Jabiru Car Rentals directly across the parking lot from the Arrivals gate at the International Airport.  We have provided detailed maps and driving directions from Belize City to our location on our directions page.

  • WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES DO YOU SUGGEST?

There are many adventure, excursion, fishing, snorkelling, sight seeing trips and tours available.  Most of these places have a Facebook page where they detail their contact info, packages and prices.  A few to check out yourself are:  Nite Wind Tours, Splash Dive Center and Placencia Tourism Center, Belize.  We also recommend you join Placencia What's Happening Facebook page as well as Placencia Restaurants/Food pages on Facebook.  These will give you ideas as to activities, events happening around the peninsula as well as food specials and weekly events.  We also have a copy of the Placencia Breeze available for you to read - just ask our manager or you can find that online as well.
